Copiers and Duplicators for Audio Tape Cassettes: Criteria for Selection, Laboratory Test Findings, Manufacturers' Data Reports. EPIE Report: Number 84e.
Educational Products Information Exchange Inst., Stony Brook, NY.
Because needs for cassette duplication equipment differ, the user must match his requirements to the capabilities of manufactured products, and the essential product characteristics. To help educators in choosing cassette duplicators, EPIE has gathered data from manufacturers and tested 11 units. The first section of the report explains the difference between a duplicator and a copier, discusses equipment characteristics, and care and maintenance requirements for the equipment. For each machine tested the report contains external and internal photographs, description of the unit, operational and performance notes, and service and alignment considerations. Test results include measures of frequency response, signal/noise ratio, distortion, wow and flutter, maximum machine noise, rewind time, record time, track placement within specifications, and electric shock hazard. The tabulation of data supplied by manufacturers in response to a questionnaire is presented in a matrix to provide a comparison among the claims made by the different manufacturers. (MLF)
