A multivitamin tablet and liquid are analyzed for the elements calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, copper, and manganese using atomic absorption spectrometry. Linear calibration and standard addition are used for all elements except calcium, allowing for an estimate of the matrix effects encountered for this complex sample. Sample preparation using standard lab chemicals and equipment allows for this experiment to be easily incorporated into undergraduate analytical laboratory courses. (Contains 1 table and 2 figures.)
