The Museum of Science and Industry Basic List of Children's Science Books 1973-1984.

Children's science books are listed under these headings: animals; astronomy; aviation and space; biography; careers; earth sciences; encyclopedias and reference books; environment and conservation; fiction; general science; life sciences; marine life; mathematics and computer science; medical and health sciences; physics and chemistry; plant life; and technology and engineering. Each entry contains: (1) a complete bibliographic description of the item, including author(s), title, publisher, publication date, current cost, and other information; (2) a summary of the general content; (3) the reading level; (4) a rating symbol that represents an editorial judgment of the book's usefulness (AA-strongly recommended/excellent; B-recommended/very good; C-acceptable quality; and D-not recommended); and, when available (5) citations to further publications with additional reviews. Information on how to use the book and comments on the rating symbols are included with introductory matter. Also included in appendices is a directory of publishers, an annotated list of sourcebooks for adults, science magazines, children's magazines (using the same format as for the children's books), a list of six review journals, an author index, and a title index.
