A World Worth Living in
Ward, Jane
Adults Learning, v23 n1 p24-25 Aut 2011
Adult educators from across the world met at the eighth World Assembly of the International Council for Adult Education (ICAE) in Malmo in June. A significant question at the World Assembly was, "What kind of lifelong learning is needed in a climate-changing world?" Discussions addressing this strand immediately revealed that responses depend on where one is situated in the world; climate change has already started to devastate communities in the global South whilst the North remains a long way behind the front-line. Learning related to climate change is best located within education for sustainable development (ESD). This offers a systemic model of development in which social, environmental, cultural and economic factors are interconnected and interdependent.
