The Gulf Coast Future Issues Council, Inc. Summary Report, June 1, 1984 to November 30, 1984.
Vaughan, Jerry L.
Focusing on the period from June, 1984 through November, 1984, this report summarizes the activities of the Gulf Coast Future Issues Council (GCFIC), a non-profit corporation organized as a coordination center of community research, forecasting, trend analysis, and educational activities. After introductory material that highlights the role of the GCFIC in examining issues likely to affect the Gulf Coast area and in helping to increase community awareness of modern trends, the report discusses the computing capacity of the GCFIC and its cooperative arrangements with local educational institutions. Next, the report discusses the Council's role in the Texas Cities Analysis and Planning Project (TCAP), a household survey conducted to assess the quality of various aspects of life in five cities. (The survey focused on community characteristics and residents' evaluation of community planning and development, human relations and cultural enrichment; economic and industrial development; physical environment; community facilities/services; beneficial projects and influential organizations and persons.) Following a discussion of other GCFIC activities, such as the development of a network of volunteer "futures researchers," the report describes how the GCFIC works and summarizes its major accomplishments. The bulk of the report presents detailed results of the TCAP survey for the cities of Santa Fe, Hitchcock, Dickinson, Lamarque, and Texas City. (HB)
