Assessment of Multiplication Fact Fluency
Ford, Marilyn Sue; Usnick, Virginia
Investigations in Mathematics Learning, v3 n2 p52-63 Win 2010-2011
This project had two major goals: to determine the usefulness of individually-administered interview process to access elementary students' fluency with basic multiplication facts, and to determine whether a developmental sequence found in Australian mathematics education literature applied to elementary students in the United States. Students in third through fifth grades were interviewed. The assessment procedure, while time consuming, provided insights into students' thinking strategies. Modifications to the developmental sequence might need to be considered.
