Bayhan, Nihat
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Lamar University - Beaumont
This study was designed to explore the factors that influenced parents to select a charter school. The study was conducted at an urban city charter school system which has eight K-5 campuses operating in two districts within a city in the southern United States. Using online survey methods, data were collected from 2,875 parents who had more than one year of experience with charter schools. The research design chosen for this study was a quantitative survey research design. The data were analyzed via Statistical Packages for the Social Sciences (SPSS). One-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Repeated Measures ANOVA and Tukey's HSD Post Hoc Test were utilized to compare responses based on ethnicity, education level and income of the participants. Results of the study highlighted what parents value in schools and how parents are satisfied with their school choice. The study also investigated if parents' perceptions of charters schools differed based on ethnicity, income level and educational level.
