This book, the second of a series published annually by the International Institute of Communications (IIC), is based on the papers and discussions of the IIC's Annual Conference and provides a survey of major issues in communication. The five subject headings are: Global Communications: Orders and Patterns, Space Communications, Information and Law, Communications and Community, and The Right to Communicate. Specific topics discussed are: a new international communication order; a global communications order; patterns of information flows; interaction and freedom; the International Television Flows Project; the future of United States space communications; the legal regulation of information and data processing; the Nordic satellite project and international law; communication in rural communities in developing countries; modernization, communication, and community development; the role of telecommunications in socioeconomic development; and how to achieve the right to communicate.
