Esperanto and International Language Problems: A Research Bibliography.
Tonkin, Humphrey R.
This bibliography is intended both for the researcher and for the occasional student of international language problems, particularly as these relate to the international language Esperanto. The book is divided into two main sections: Part One deals with problems arising from communication across national boundaries and the search for a solution and Part Two focuses on Esperanto. Basic texts, bibliographies and brief abstracts of literature in the field are included in each of the main sections. The following topics in particular are covered: (1) international language problems; (2) factors involved in the search for a constructed language, specifically interlinguistics, feasibility, linguistic aspects, and history; (3) the Esperanto language, including a discussion of its structure and grammar, lexicology, dictionaries and usage; (4) Esperanto as a social phenomenon dealing principally with history and culture, organization and international meetings; (5) Esperanto literature; and (6) Esperanto in the schools, in science, in international organizations, and projections for the future. The text concludes with practical advice to the student. (AMH)
