Egypt: A Simulation of Ancient Egyptian Civilization.
Sargent, Marcia; Malcolm, Vivian
This simulation allows students to travel north through the six divisions of the Nile River, with each major phase of the simulation called a "cataract". Students earn travel points as they sail the Nile from its source in Central Africa through the Sixth Cataract, all the way to the First Cataract, and then on to the delta where it flows into the Mediterranean. Students spend about a week or less on activities to successfully navigate through a particular cataract. Each phase focuses on a major aspect of Egyptian history, culture, and geography. In these cataract phases, students are organized as citizens of one of the five important cities of ancient Egypt: Memphis, Abydos, Hermopolis/Akhetaten, Bubastis, or Thebes. Suggestions are given for modifying the unit with a 23-day schedule or a 15-day schedule of activities. (EH)
