ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Alliant International University
The Problem: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether or not there were any statistically significant differences in the Mathematics California Standard Test scores and attendance rates for African American and Latina high school girls who participated in an afterschool program. Method: A quasi-experimental design was conducted with ethnicity as the independent variable with two levels (African American versus Latina students), and California Standards Test scores and attendance rates as the dependent variables. T-tests were performed to find out whether there were any significant differences in the Mathematics California Standards Test scores and afterschool attendance rates for African American high school girls and Latina high school girls who participated in the afterschool program. Results: No significant differences were found in the attendance rates and no significant differences were found in the California Standard Test scores between African American girls and Latina girls that participated in an afterschool program.
