Wepner, Shelley B.; Bowes, Kathleen A.
Reading and Writing Quarterly, v20 n2 p219-223 Apr 2004
Assistive Technology--as defined by the ?"Tech Act?" (Technology-Related Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities Act, Public Law 100-407)?is any item, piece of equipment, or product system that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities. While the term assistive technology is new, the idea of adapting technology to fit the needs of students with and without disabilities is not. This article describes alternative input devices for computers and reading, thinking, and writing programs that use assistive technology devices.
