Alumni clubs and chapters are powerful tools for keeping alumni connected to each other and the institution, gathering insight into what alumni want from their alma mater, and even raising money for the institution. And while alumni leaders do not need to devote a large amount of their budget to create successful groups, they do need to ensure that the groups are well-managed and catering to the critical mass. Deciding where to start an alumni club or chapter can be as easy as looking at your database and selecting the cities with the largest alumni populations. Motivated volunteers can get chapters started, but it's the alumni office's responsibility to set expectations.
