Air Pollution Primer.
National Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease Association, New York, NY.
As the dangers of polluted air to the health and welfare of all individuals became increasingly evident and as the complexity of the causes made responsibility for solutions even more difficult to fix, the National Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease Association felt obligated to give greater emphasis to its clean air program. To this end they have developed this primer for the concerned layman, to provide him with the knowledge and motivation to spur community pressure and action for restoration of clean air. The narrative material covers: air, weather, and pollution; the processes of pollution; pollutants: their state and and source; pollutants: their chemical properties; the special pollution of radioactivity; the health effects of pollution; and pollution's other effects (on animals, vegetation, materials, visibility, and economics). Diagrams and charts are used throughout to illustrate some of the information, and a glossary of terms used in the field of air pollution control concludes the work. (BL)
