Identification of Science-Related Competencies Taught in Vocational Agriculture Programs in Louisiana.
Louisiana State Univ., Baton Rouge. School of Vocational Education.
A project identified instructional objectives in the "Basic Program of Vocational Agriculture in Louisiana" curriculum guide which teach a substantial amount of science. It also determined the amount of time spent in vocational agriculture programs in Louisiana on science-related vocational agriculture instruction. The research staff examined the Agriculture I and Agriculture II curriculum to determine overlapping objectives taught in both vocational agriculture and high school science classes. Vocational agriculture teachers and high school science teachers validated the identification of the science-related instructional objectives. A total of 76 instructional objectives were identified as being science related. This report summarizes the science-related instructional objectives taught in vocational agriculture during the freshman and sophomore years. Information is presented correlating the agricultural instructional objective with one or more science courses taught in Louisiana public schools. Information is also presented showing the relationship between agricultural instructional objectives and science objectives for each science course investigated in the study--biology, chemistry, earth science, environmental science, general science, physical science, and physics.
