Basic reference tools for the selection of educational materials are listed, along with reference works for students and teachers. Over 2500 annotated entries are arranged under 54 headings. The first two sections describe 182 tools for locating and selecting and evaluating media; acquisition tools cover the whole spectrum of media. Next, a general reference section describes the encyclopedias, almanacs and other tools needed in elementary, secondary and junior college libraries and in teachers' professional collections. The major part of the guide consists of 51 subject area sections, ranging from agriculture to zoology. Each section contains an annotated selection of bibliographies, atlases, dictionaries, encyclopedias, guides and handbooks related to the content area. Entries provide full bibliographic data, prices, and descriptive and evaluative annotations. References to major reviews and standard recommended lists and catalogs are also appended. An author-subject-title index provides access to all entries and to related titles mentioned in the annotations. (Author)
