School-Age Child Care Trend Report: Part 2
Neugebauer, Roger
Exchange: The Early Childhood Leaders' Magazine Since 1978, n177 p28-31 Sep-Oct 2007
According to the author, school-age care is the fastest growing segment of the early childhood arena and possibly the least visible. While programs have been serving school-age children in out-of-school hours since the turn of the century, it is only in recent years that professionals have started to view school-age care as a distinct discipline with its own unique history, challenges, and opportunities. In this article, the author reports the recent trends on school-age child care. Over 140 school-age professionals were surveyed for this trend report. The report revealed the following: (1) Who uses school-age care; (2) Who provides school-age care; (3) Who pays for school-age care; and (4) How is quality assured on school-age care. (Contains 3 figures and 6 resources.) ["School-Age Child Care Trend Report: Part 2" was written with Mike Wilson and Tracey Ballas.]
