A Study of Teachers' and Principals' Views of Sponsored Educational Materials That May Be Provided Schools by Consumers Power Company--Part V: High School Social Studies and Science Teachers.
DuVall, Charles R.
The opinions of senior high school social studies and science teachers concerning use of free materials sponsored by Michigan's Consumer Power Company (CPC) are reported. The study was concerned with teacher assessment of sponsored materials and factors which may have an affect upon the use of the materials with their classes. Opinionaires were mailed to principals of all private and public high schools in Michigan who were on the mailing list for CPC's catalog of free and inexpensive teaching materials. The mailings also included opinionaires which the principals were asked to distribute to social studies and science teachers. The response rate was 37%. The study revealed a positive attitude toward and acceptance of the educational materials. Teachers welcomed the sponsored materials, provided they were unbiased and relatively free of advertising. No specific recommendations were made at this time, because this study is only the first in a series of six to be undertaken. The opinionaire and responses are included in the appendices which make up over half the report. (RM)
