Success Defined by Television: The Value System Promoted by "PM Magazine."
Sandeen, Cathy
Critical Studies in Mass Communication, v14 n1 p77-105 Mar 1997
Finds that "PM Magazine" emphasized and promoted a dominant personal success value system revolving around recognition, achievement, financial success, excitement, and physical attributes. Argues that this value system existed because it appealed to a particular demographic, making the program highly marketable to national advertisers, and that it functioned to reinforce existing traditional and conservative power structures within American society.
