Physical Education for Inner City Secondary Schools.
Ridini, Leonard M.; Madden, John E.
This four-part document addresses problems facing teachers of inner-city secondary students. Part 1 discusses the adverse influences of society on the inner city, and their effects on education and physical education. Part 2 focuses on competencies and expertise needed by physical education instructors to work effectively with inner-city students. Part 3 provides learning experiences contributing toward total education development for the secondary student and includes discussion of disciplines that reinforce physical education learning experiences during extracurricular programs. Part 4 concentrates on the need to evaluate and measure selected phases of the physical education program from philosophy and objectives to instruction. The authors have provided a list of questions to assist and guide educators in program selection and an evaluative tool to help determine the student needs and interests. (JS)
