Toward a New Understanding of Early Menarche: The Role of Environmental Stress in Pubertal Timing.
Wierson, Michelle; And Others
Adolescence, v28 n112 p913-24 Win 1993
Examined divorce and interparental conflict in light of theory that environmental stress may trigger early menarche in adolescents. Findings from 71 adolescent females and their mothers revealed that, compared to girls from intact families, those from divorced families had earlier onset of menarche. Higher maternal reports of interparental conflict were significantly related to earlier menarche in total sample. (Author/NB)
