New York State education law, rules, and regulations concerning the practice of medicine are presented, along with requirements and procedures for obtaining licensure and first registration as a physician. State statutory provisions cover: duration and registration of a license, practice and regulation of the profession, supervision by the Board of Regents, administration by the Education Department, definitions of professional misconduct, and unauthorized acts. Information on disciplinary proceedings in the professions covers complaints, investigation, prosecution or settlement, reports, consent orders, surrender of license, violation of probation, hearing panel, and summary suspensions. Rules of the Board of Regents on unprofessional conduct and procedures for determining good moral character in the professions are provided. An application for Medical License and First Registration and other forms are included. Requirements for practice of physician's assistant, specialist's assistant, and acupuncture are also identified. Appendices include: a list of U.S. and Canadian medical schools and schools of basic medical sciences with accredited programs, 1984-1985; and a list of schools of osteopathic medicine. (SW)
