Yeaman, Andrew R. J.
Divided into three major sections, this report documents the introduction and first year of the educational computing program, introduced at the University of Maine at Presque Isle in 1985 and discontinued in 1986. The first section provides details on the program: its goals, the baccalaureate degree, and a proposed university certificate for teachers; the educational computing curricula; educational computing and the Division of Education, Health, Physical Education and Recreation (E/HPER); educational computing and the community; educational computing and the State of Maine; and educational computing facilities and resources. The second section contains commentary by the program coordinator on each of these topics. The appendices contain supporting documents: (1) the statement of mission; (2) a listing of the four-year curriculum for educational computing majors; (3) competencies and courses for the educational computing certificate for teachers; (4) course offerings; (5) course descriptions; (6) outline and revision of the initial introductory course; (7) electronic text display research proposal; (8) a brochure on the program; (9) various documents related to a non-credit offering on computer-assisted farming; (10) a 48-item bibliography; (11) a synopsis of an Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) report detailing a proposed curriculum for a program of study leading to computer science teacher certification at the precollege level; (12) materials and equipment needed for the program; and (13) miscellaneous memos and news releases.
