International Experiences of Turkish Student Teachers: A Multiple Case Study
Kizilaslan, Irem
Journal of Ethnographic & Qualitative Research, v4 n2 p108-114 2010
In recent years, countries around the world have promoted international experiences for student teachers' development of the knowledge and skills necessary in these interdependent and global times. Using a rigorous qualitative approach, this study explored 10 Turkish student teachers' international opportunities in several European countries within the framework of Erasmus student exchange program during the 2008-2009 academic year. Findings indicated that prior to their successful acculturation the student teachers faced hurdles in dealing with preconceptions about their home country, specifically regarding women issues, religion, and family life. These findings are discussed and implications are included for teacher education.
