Teaching Learning-Related Social Skills in Kindergarten Physical Education
Liu, Michelle Hsiu-Chen; Karp, Grace Goc; Davis, Debby
Journal of Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (JOPERD), v81 n6 p38-44 Aug 2010
A lack of social skills may lead young children to have difficulties in establishing close relationships with their peers. This could lead to school maladjustment and academic failure. Research indicates that it is important for children to learn specific learning-related social skills (LRSS) to get along with others in order to succeed in the early school learning environment. Face-to-face social interaction opportunities and physical play activities are essential for the development of specific social behaviors. This article provides strategies for teaching kindergarten children LRSS through a modified teaching personal and social responsibility (TPSR) model in the physical education setting.
