Tanoshii Gakushu--Learning with Enjoyment: Activities about Japan for Elementary Students. Second Edition.
Shoresman, Michele; Kinoshita, Waunita
A variety of experiences are provided to encourage active learning and involvement on the part of U.S. students studying Japanese culture. The aim is to enable the mathematics, English, art, physical education, and science teacher as well as the social studies instructor to incorporate the study of Japan into their curricula. In each of these subjects, students can learn a great deal about Japan while keeping up with the "basics." For example, a teacher doing a unit on folktales could use a section on Japanese folktales without having the students complete a whole unit on Japan. Units of study are: "Japanese Pronunciation Guide"; "Introduction to Japanese Writing"; "Geography"; "Trade"; "Artifacts"; "Soroban Work Cards--How to Use an Abacus"; "Cooking"; "Folktales"; "Arts";"Games and Exercises"; and "Clothing."
