Efficacy of Webinar Training for Continuing Professional Education: Applications for School Personnel in K-12 Settings
Covington, Julie Anne
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, The University of North Carolina at Charlotte
The purpose of the researcher was to evaluate the effectiveness of webinar training for K-12 school personnel in childhood obesity prevention tools and resources provided by the North Carolina Prevention Partners (NCPP). A mixed method sequential research design was used to evaluate the training across the first three levels of the Kirkpatrick model. Results included a summary of participant reactions to the training, learning outcomes, and evidence for behavior change as a result of webinar completion. Learning gains were not found to be statistically significant, however an overall 8% increase from pre- to post-test was observed. Behavior change was evidenced by participant application of knowledge gained in the webinar to the workplace (e.g., incorporation of nutrition education into classroom activities). Recommendations were provided for organizations using the Kirkpatrick model to evaluate distance continuing professional education programs.
