Make a Splash Day
Coverdale, Greg; Rust, April; Jensen, Belinda
Science and Children, v41 n9 p38-45 Jul-Aug 2004
At the annual, all-day events-sponsored by Project WET (Water Education for Teachers) and held in nearly every state across the country each September--students participate in interactive activities and exhibits to learn about water resources and explore how human behaviors, such as development and recreation, can affect the quality of the country's waterways. A university professor, a Project WET state coordinator at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, and a local meteorologist have teamed up to participate in Minnesota's Make a Splash (MAS) Water Education Day for two consecutive years. One of the ways Project WET works to achieve its mission is by hosting MAS water festivals for fifth-grade students each fall. A lot of preparation and training goes into a successful festival. The festival is described in this article.
