The Presidents' Day Game
Maxwell, D. Jackson
Library Media Connection, v26 n5 p32-33 Feb 2008
The history behind the holiday commonly called "Presidents' Day" is a bit confusing. It started as a federal holiday called Washington's Birthday. It was a day set aside to honor George Washington for his accomplishments as a founding father of the country. Later, many northern states began to recognize Abraham Lincoln's Birthday as well for his role in preserving the union during the Civil War. Over the years, Congress debated several bills related to these birthdays, which brought about various changes that created further uncertainty to the matter. In this article, the author gives a brief history of the "Presidents' Day" and includes a Presidents' Day game. (Contains 8 online resources.)
