Active Movement Warm-Up Routines
Walter, Teri; Quint, Ashleigh; Fischer, Kim; Kiger, Joy
Journal of Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (JOPERD), v82 n3 p23-31 Mar 2011
This article presents warm-ups that are designed to physiologically and psychologically prepare students for vigorous physical activity. An active movement warm-up routine is made up of three parts: (1) active warm-up movement exercises, (2) general preparation, and (3) the energy system. These warm-up routines can be used with all grade levels (P-12), are designed to be progressive, and are flexible and variable enough to accommodate all students, regardless of skill or fitness level. They also enable physical educators to design their own warm-up routines that are fun, challenging, and specific to the lesson being taught. (Contains 6 tables and 15 figures.)
