The Contribution of Outdoor Recreation and Outdoor Education to the Economy of Scotland: Case Studies and Preliminary Findings.
Higgins, Peter
Journal of Adventure Education and Outdoor Learning, v1 n1 p69-82 2000
Outdoor recreation and education contribute substantially to the Scottish economy. Outdoor recreation generates considerable tourism income, much of it in rural areas, and also extends the traditional tourist season. Outdoor education centers are significant employers in certain rural areas. In addition, "therapeutic" outdoor programs have been effective in reducing youth crime, with cost-savings to the taxpayer.
