Joseph Tofte Bruns: Wrestling with Big Ideas
Cosier, Kimberly
Journal of LGBT Youth, v7 n2 p91-99 2010
Joe Bruns is currently a student in the Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification Program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The series of work featured in this interview centers on the idea of relationships. Joe explores collective and implicated relationship to the work of Felix Gonzalez-Torres through the reuse of paper taken from "Untitled (Veterans Day Sale) 1989" at the Milwaukee Art Museum. One of the artist's "stack" pieces, this sculptural installation is made up of a pile of unlimited edition prints meant to be taken by viewers and replenished from time to time. This interview took place mostly by way of asynchronous e-mail conversations while Joe was in Argentina, followed by face-to-face collaboration on editing and refining the ideas on his return.
