This book suggests that Title IX of the Education Amendments is not creating more female athletes but instead eliminating some of the most prestigious men's sports programs in the name of gender equity. It shows how Title IX has affected every aspect of education, from kindergarten through graduate school, making profound changes in areas as disparate as test scoring, sexual harassment, and teenage pregnancy. It suggests that what is at stake is how women are seen in U.S. society. On one side stand traditional gender feminists who believe that they are still victims of male dominance in schools. On the other side are new feminists who stand for women's rights but do not believe that women and men are identical in interests and abilities and refuse to penalize men for this fact of life.
