Alika, Ijeoma Henrietta
Research in Education, v88 p107-109 Nov 2012
The study examined the role of inadequate facilities/accommodation, poor health, emotional problems, socio-economic status and poor time management as sources of stress among University of Benin undergraduates. The research instrument used was a questionnaire. The survey method was adopted for the study. Seven hundred and fifty respondents were selected from three faculties. The data were analysed using simple percentages. The result showed that inadequate facilities/accommodation, poor health, emotional problems, socio-economic status and poor time management are sources of stress among University of Benin undergraduates. The study showed that poor time management was the highest contributor of stress among University of Benin students with 92.4 per cent of the respondents indicating that it was the major contributor of stress. Counselling services should be provided in Nigerian universities with a view to guiding the undergraduates on how to effectively cope with the university environment.
