Creating the Missing Connection. Final Report on The Fund for the Improvement of Collegiate Education Grant.

Thomas A. Edison State College's Center for Corporate Partnerships and its 3-year program "Creating the Missing Connection" are reported. The Center connects Edison with business and government agencies so that they can play a role in making college education more accessible to their employees. The program contributed to the development of the center's collaborative model because it occasioned a formalization of the instinctive processes already going on at the center. The Fund for the Improvement of Collegiate Education (FICE) program contributions include resources for evaluation, marketing and recruitment policy development, organizational development, and improvement of the collaborative model, of student services, and of client services. Seven sections are as follows: introduction (mission and background of the center); development of collaborative expertise (visual model: the contract cycle, evolution of collaborative efforts, and lessons learned from collaborations); student survey summary (student survey results); client survey summary (client survey results); impact of FICE on the students, the center, and the college; dissemination activities; and programmatic initiatives and next steps for the center (a sample academic needs report, a form for tracking student activity, a monthly format for reporting center activity, and a history of client activities). The appendixes include a 35-page handbook entitled "Working Together: Colleges with Businesses; Developing Collaborative Relationships." (SM)
