Promoting Golf as a Lifetime Physical Activity for Persons with Disabilities
Sandt, Dawn D.; Flynn, Erin; Turner, Tiffany A.
Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators, v27 n1 p18-25 2014
Golf is one of the most accessible and versatile physical activities and is a viable choice for young adults with disabilities to engage in the recommended levels of physical activity. Teaching golf to youth with disabilities requires more than making accommodations regarding equipment, technique, and rules in the physical education setting. For youth to engage in golf as a lifelong activity, physical educators must also utilize novel and creative strategies that support community-based participation. This article discusses modifications to support youth with disabilities as they learn the game of golf and strategies to facilitate golf as a recreational pursuit for young adults with disabilities within the community.
