Because Everyone Has a Story to Tell: Interview with Andrew Wright
Floris, Flora Debora
RELC Journal: A Journal of Language Teaching and Research, v47 n1 p111-114 Apr 2016
This article presents an interview with Andrew Wright, a widely recognized author, illustrator, storyteller, and teacher trainer. Wright has published many ELT books, authored six "Spellbinder" graded readers (1992-1994), and a collection of short stories. As a teacher trainer, Wright worked extensively with both teachers and students in more than 50 countries for more than 30 years. Floris provides insights from Wright by drawing out his thoughts with questions such as: What attracted him to the field of English Language Teaching? Why should teachers use stories to teach English? Considering the curriculum and administrative constraints, how can teachers integrate stories into their English lessons? How about the assessment--Can stories or storytelling be assessed? Which language aspects should teachers focus on? Technology has become an important part of our everyday lives. Is the art and craft of story and storytelling still relevant in this digital era? How does he see the future of ELT in the global context? What are the challenges? What should teachers do to meet the challenges?
