Reflections from Latin America for Strengthening Youth and Adult Educational Policy and Process
Mera, Carlos Zarco
Convergence, v37 n3 p89-104 2004
This article stems from the author's personal experience promoting processes in favour of youth and adult education as Secretary General of the Latin American Council for Adult Education. The author draws from the analyses and considerations presented in documents developed over the past seven years that reflect collective thinking and the development of educational proposals in the region, particularly, in support of Youth and Adult Education (YAE). Given the author's experience in Latin America, youth and adult education (referred to in the region by its initials YAE or EPJA in Spanish) is part of a broader dynamic of civil society mobilisation in favour of equity, justice and democracy in the country. YAE is yet another trench for strengthening citizenship and the expressions of grassroots social movements. From this viewpoint and in the midst of robust advocacy efforts, reflections that the author shares here have been affirmed throughout numerous dialogues and analysis in Latin America.
