Weather Fundamentals: Hurricanes & Tornadoes. [Videotape].
The videos in this educational series, for grades 4-7, help students understand the science behind weather phenomena through dramatic live-action footage, vivid animated graphics, detailed weather maps, and hands-on experiments. This episode (23 minutes) features information on the deadliest and most destructive storms on Earth. Through satellite images, Doppler radar, and storm footage, the program shows how meteorologists use data such as location, movement, wind speed, temperature, and air pressure to predict the course of these storms. The video also describes how air moves inside the funnel of a tornado and documents "storm chasers" as they follow and collect information about tornadoes. This program includes a Teacher's Guide featuring additional information, vocabulary words, discussion questions, follow-up activities, and lists of suggested books and Internet resources. (WRM)
