Intelligibility of Modified Speech for Young Listeners with Normal and Impaired Hearing.
Uchanski, Rosalie M.; Geers, Ann E.; Protopapas, Athanassios
Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, v45 n5 p1027-38 Oct 2002
A study examined whether the benefits of modified speech could be extended to provide intelligibility improvements for eight children (ages 8-14) with severe-to-profound hearing impairments who wear sensory aids and five controls. All varieties of modified speech (envelope-amplified, slowed, and both) yielded either equivalent or poorer intelligibility than unprocessed speech. (Contains references.) (Author/CR)
