This publication is designed to provide students with the knowledge they need to pursue a career in medical-surgical nursing. Fifteen units are provided. Each instructional unit includes some or all of the basic components of a unit of instruction: performance objectives, suggested activities for the teacher, information sheets, job sheets, written tests, and answers to assignment sheets and written test. Most units of instruction are designed for use in more than one lesson or class period of instruction. The 15 units relate to applying the nursing process to the care of the following: integumentary system, musculoskeletal system, central nervous system, cardiovascular system--heart, cardiovascular system--blood vessels, cardiovascular system--blood, upper gastrointestinal system, lower gastrointestinal system, urinary system, respiratory system, endocrine system, reproductive system, vision disorders, ear disorders, and immune system disorders. An instructional supplement suggests teaching strategies to address student difficulties in acquiring basic skills in the following areas: reading, writing, mathematics, science, oral communication, interpersonal/relating, creative thinking/problem solving, and employability.
