Gastroesophageal reflux (GER) as a cause of an infant or child's refusal to eat is becoming better recognized. However, the many more subtle influences that reflux can have on feeding are less often recognized. Although vomiting after meals is the classic presentation, infants and children may present with a variety of more subtle symptoms less easily recognized as related to reflux, such as not eating enough, difficulty advancing texture, chronic congestion, irritability, disturbed sleep, or poor weight gain. This is the third in a series of articles that will concentrate on medical, motor, and behavioral influences on feeding and swallowing issues in the pediatric population.
