Introduction to Svenska.
Simonsen, Reidar G.
This Swedish language unit is intended to introduce high school students in the United States to modern spoken Swedish and to Swedish culture. The document is presented in 18 chapters. Topics include greetings, family, daily life, conversational openers, the alphabet, ordering food in a restaurant, football, sports, skiing, politics, travels, and telling time. For each topic, fill in and short answer exercises are presented to reinforce student comprehension of basic vocabulary words. To develop each topic, various formats are used including simple sentences, questions, and dialogues. Charts, illustrations, and a Swedish/English vocabulary list are also included. After participating in the Swedish language unit, students should have mastered the use of commonly used idioms and a limited vocabulary. In addition, the developer feels that exposure to the unit will help students appreciate Swedish heritage. (DB)
