A Guidebook for Teaching Physics.

This guidebook consists of 11 chapters. Chapter 1 provides information on organizing a physics course, considering such topics as types of physics programs, laboratory work, curriculum selection, and computers/calculators. Chapters 2 to 11 focus, respectively, on the topic areas of forces, motion, dynamics, energy, heat, the atomic structure of matter, nuclear energy, waves, static electricity, and current electricity. Each of these 10 chapters includes: (1) a brief introduction to the concepts presented, along with a discussion of why these concepts might be important to students, and an outline of choices teachers may want to make in organizing instruction; (2) a list of performance objectives; (3) a review of content; (4) a wealth of learning experiences to employ in teaching concepts in the chapter; (5) evaluation items; and (6) annotated lists of materials useful for teaching topics in the chapter (films, film loops, filmstrips, books, and articles). Also included are 103 reproduction pages which can be used to make masters for spirit duplication, overhead projector transparencies, or student copies. (JN)
