Composite Score Analysis: Ability Index, SES Index, Some Psychological and Educational Construct Scales. National Longitudinal Study of the High School Class of 1972. RTI Project No. 884.
Dunteman, George H.; And Others
The first set of National Longitudinal Study (NLS) data was analyzed to derive composite scores to be used in subsequent analyses. The composites include a general ability measure, a socioeconomic status (SES) index, and factor scores from factor analyses of sets of question items measuring goals, attitudes, and other psychological attributes. The derived composites can be used to help define subpopulations for descriptive statistics and as independent or control variables in some analytic studies. Procedures and results of the composite score analyses are presented. Four appendices contain Duncan's socioeconomic status metric for first followup questionnaire #93; group means for substitution of missing data; principal components factor matrices; analysis means; and means and standard deviations used for standardization.
