Implementing the Instructional Coach Role as a Professional Development Option: A Case Study of the Change Process
Kubek, Jessica
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Wilmington University (Delaware)
The overall purpose of this study was to examine the attitudes and participation in professional development activities of key stakeholders as related to the change of position from an Instructional Support Teacher to an Instructional Coach. Specifically, this study aimed to provide a detailed and extensive review of the implementation process and how it influenced teacher, administrator and staff attitudes toward professional development and coaching and the influence of those attitudes on teacher participation in professional development opportunities with an instructional coach as well as other forms of PD. This case study describes how the instructional coaching model of professional development was implemented in Sector A and whether teacher and staff attitudes towards coaching and professional development changed over the first two years of the implementation period. The goal of this research was to explore and determine staff attitudes towards the instructional coach and the impact of those attitudes on participation in professional development activities so future changes in the district can benefit from what was learned about the implementation of the Instructional Coaching model.
