Beyond Technology, How to Spark Kids' Passions
Barseghian, Tina
Education Digest: Essential Readings Condensed for Quick Review, v78 n4 p60-61 Dec 2012
Helping kids find their passion outside the confines of standardized curriculum and testing can be a messy endeavor, but worth the challenge. Marc Prensky, author of "BRAIN GAIN: Technology and the Quest for Digital Wisdom," said that, rather than finding different ways for everyone to do the same curriculum, educators need to allow individual students to create their own pathways to learning. The value that great teachers bring to the equation is immeasurable against what software can do, Prensky said: providing empathy and helping students find their passion by providing a wider place to look. This article offers ways teachers can help students create their own pathways to learning.
