More and Better Learning: Year Three Report on the National Demonstration of ExpandED Schools. A TASC Report
Traill, Saskia; Brohawn, Katie
ExpandED Schools
In the 2013-14 school year, TASC entered the third year of its national demonstration of ExpandED Schools. Ten elementary and middle schools in New York City, Baltimore and New Orleans continued their partnerships with youth-serving community organizations, such as settlement houses or community development corporations. Together, principals, community partners, teachers, parents and students worked to redesign their schools to add three hours to the conventional six-and-a-half-hour school day to meet shared goals and deliver on the promise of a great public education for every child. ExpandED Schools bring together the time, expertise and resources of schools and community partners to give students in underserved schools and communities more opportunities to discover their talents and develop their full potential in order to achieve success in the 21st-century marketplace. This report presents findings from the third year of this demonstration project, as well as lessons learned by TASC and their partners as schools begin to break from the outdated school calendar.
