Building Social Media Connections
Ferriter, William N.; Ramsden, Jason T.; Sheninger, Eric C.
Principal, v91 n3 p18-19 Jan-Feb 2012
Incorporating social media tools into your professional practices does not have to be intimidating as long as you are willing to tackle five action steps. It is far easier to articulate the strengths--and to imagine the possibilities--of social media spaces as tools for communication and professional development when you are actively using those tools. This article describes these five steps to build social media connections: (1) build your own network; (2) consult and influence district social media policies; (3) build awareness and gain allies; (4) start with blogs; and (5) grow from the inside out. By following these five steps, principals can transform communication practices and reach out to the community.
