Proper documentation of strategies and results is crucially important for identifying problems and benchmark successes in the education of special needs students. In this article, the author shares the guidelines he provides to teachers at his school in the hopes of minimizing administrative tasks while ensuring that educators are familiar with individuals students' Individual Education Plans, keep them manageable and up-to-date, and document all other important communications and milestones in direct proportion to the degree of difficulty a student is encountering in class. A sidebar lists common accomodations effective for middle school instruction of special needs children.
